The Fortini Ortofrutticoli s.r.l. was born in 1998 and succeeds Az.Agr.Fortifrutta born in 1985 in Castello d’Argile (BO) thanks to the initiative and initiative of Gaetano Fortini, who in 1957 started farming in the fruit sector.
At the beginning, the main activity was the marketing of fruit (apples, pears, peaches, plums) largely produced in the family orchards. The interest in the horticultural sector borned later, firstly to expand the products range and furthermore to integrate the seasonality of fruit-growing work.
In 1986 Fortifrutta begins to supply Italian supermarkets chains. The need to extend celery supply period to guarantee product availability all year round arises from the relationship with the large-scale retail trade. To achieve this goal, the company begins to set up celery productions in various Italian and Spanish horticultural areas. At the beginning of the 90s Fortini Ortofrutticoli became one of the first companies to produce vegetables with a private label for the most important Italian supermarket chains expanding also its offer by inserting the broccoli reference.
